About the project
In Fuenteovejuna by Lope de Vega, several women are outraged and violated by Fernán Gómez. Laurencia, one of them, refuses to remain a silent victim. She raises her voice before her father and before the entire village, confronting them and igniting the spark of a rebellion.
Las Laurencias is an interdisciplinary stage production by Jessica Huerta that explores how this emblematic monologue resonates today and across all the elements that make up the play.
We create a dialogue between Lope de Vega’s verses and the performers’ biographies. Different belief systems and worldviews converge here in order to engage in dialogue and build a collective narrative about what we consider urgent.
I worked as one of the performers and choreographers.
It was first presented at the Festival de Almagro and later at Teatro del Barrio. The project has evolved over the years and has taken different forms. It is still active, but without my participation since I moved from Madrid to Berlin.
