Lady Bird

To fall upward after having crossed this dense earth a thousand and one times… to fly into the open and be reborn… to feel new wings growing silently within me… and still not know toward what other time and space they propel me… to fall upward and be reborn…

About the project

A woman, as free as a bird, can soar to enjoy life and freedom. The sky is open to her. But she is tied to her nest - to her responsibilities, both big and small, to her emotions, habits, and passions.

She feels free, and it seems like she might take flight and fly away. But she is held back by her own pit. Freedom is the open sky in her life, but it's become so familiar that it's no longer a joy or a precious gift — just something forgotten and pushed aside by the channel in the pit, which gives direction. And that direction is not toward the sky. (Text by Evgeny Gevorkyan)

The video above is a clip from a longer performance presented at Pink You Fest in Berlin in November 2025 at Acker Stadt Palast. I performed without music, using only the sound of my steps and breathing as the accompaniment to the dance. Madeline Whitesell helped create a dreamy world through her images made of light, using an analog overhead projector, ink, and coloured lighting gels.

This work has a long future ahead, with new developments underway.
